Canine to Five's Puppy Preschool in Ferndale gives pups under 8 months old a safe place to experience all that newness while building good social skills along the way.
Puppy Preschool is offered exclusively at our Ferndale location and is included with daycare and boarding at no extra cost for eligible puppies. You handle your day, and we'll keep your pup busy learning how to handle theirs.
Puppy Curriculum
When you're a puppy, there's something new around every corner. Puppy preschool classes give your pup a safe way to familiarize themself with the people, objects, sounds, and situations they'll encounter as they grow, including:
- People using wheelchairs, walkers, and crutches
- Lawn tools such as wheelbarrows, rakes, and shovels
- Strangers wearing big coats, hats, and sunglasses
- Veterinary equipment such as lab coats, stethoscopes, and otoscopes
- Things with wheels such as skateboards, bicycles, and strollers
Socialization Training
Puppies get supervised playtime with dogs of different sizes, ages, and play styles. That gives them a chance to learn some of the unwritten rules of being a dog, from reading another dog's cues to knowing when playtime is getting a little too rowdy and it's time for a break.
Crate Training
We schedule enclosed naps every hour to prevent overstimulation and to prepare your pup for the crate-training routine they'll experience while you're busy or traveling and when they're at the vet or groomer.
Socialization Training
Puppies develop strong attachments to their favorite toys, their food, and receiving attention. We give them supervised opportunities to practice sharing and staying comfortable when another dog or person is around something they really want.
Routine & Class Requirements
Think your pup is ready for preschool? Here's what they'll need before joining us:
- Be under 8 months old
- Be up to date on Bordetella, DHPP, and Rabies vaccinations
- Have passed a doggy daycare evaluation(opens in new tab)
If your puppy is under 6 months old, we recommend packing them a clearly labeled lunch that we can serve at noon.
Puppies can share germs almost as easily as they share toys. If your pup is coughing, sneezing, or has a runny nose, please let our team know and keep them home for at least 10 days after symptoms have subsided. - Register Your Puppy
Start by telling us a little about your pup. We’ll need their age, breed, and vaccination records before they can join us. - Complete an Evaluation Day
Before jumping into group play, your puppy will spend an evaluation day with our team. We'll see how they settle in, meet new canine faces, and get comfortable with the Canine to Five routine. - Join Puppy Preschool
Once your pup is ready, Puppy Preschool becomes part of their daycare or boarding visits at Ferndale. They'll settle into a routine of puppy preschool games and socialization with plenty of chances to recharge along the way. - Move Up to Group Play
The puppy stage doesn’t last forever. Once your pup turns 8 months old, they can move into regular dog daycare(opens in new tab) and continue building on the social experience they’ve gained. Our Pawsitive Enrichment(opens in new tab) program is also available for dogs who thrive on specialized, one-on-one attention.
