Canine to Five
Canine to Five opened in Detroit in 2005 as a place where dogs feel comfortable walking in, and their owners feel comfortable walking out.
Over two decades later, that approach has grown with us. What started as one location is now four, but the way we handle care has stayed the same: We pay attention, we adjust, and we treat each dog as an individual rather than a routine.
As a family-owned business, we’ve gotten to know dogs at every stage across every breed. Our mission is to provide exceptional care for dogs while offering pet parents peace of mind.
Our Story
We started Canine to Five in 2005 after having the same conversations over and over with other pet owners in the area. Our community was genuinely having difficulty finding consistent dog boarding in Detroit.
So we opened our first location and built from there, learning as we went and paying close attention to how dogs responded to the space and to each other. As more families started coming in, our growth trajectory followed. Now, with locations in Midtown, Ferndale, Commerce Township, and the Eastside, our mission to provide compassionate, safe dog daycare in Detroit feels realized.
But we’re not done. We’ve gotten to know the dogs and families who come through our doors on a personal level. Some have been with us for years. Others have come back with new dogs after saying goodbye to old ones. These relationships keep us connected with our community, even as we continue to grow our mission.

Your dog should always feel comfortable in the space around them. Our staff is always aware of their environment, making small adjustments as the day moves along, so their time feels steady without becoming overly controlled.

Enrichment isn’t about constant activity. It is about giving dogs the chance to move around and settle into their natural rhythm, so they leave our care fully relaxed and happy.
Individualized Attention
Not every dog walks in ready to jump into the day, and we do not expect them to. Some need space, and some need time to ease in gradually. We provide individualized attention in real time so they can get comfortable without being pushed to keep up.

Midtown opened in 2005 and is conveniently situated on Cass Ave. between Peterboro and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. This location is ideal for pet parents commuting from downriver.

Opened in 2013, our Ferndale location in Oakland County is conveniently located on E. Nine Mile Rd., between Bonner St. and Farrow St. We're a convenient choice for pet parents commuting from Birmingham, Beverly Hills, Royal Oak, Oak Park, Clawson, Highland Park, and Detroit.

Our Commerce Township location opened in 2021 to serve the Lakes Area community. This facility is on the east side of Commerce, located on Haggerty Rd. between Richardson and Pontiac Trail. We are a great option for pet parents commuting from White Lake, Walled Lake, Wixom, Milford, Novi, South Lyon, Northville, and Waterford.

Some dogs take a little longer to get comfortable with grooming. Our dog grooming services are calm and never rushed. When we’re done, your pet will feel as good as they look.
